Live Online Tutoring

You've got homework. We've got help. The Lake Villa District Library offers help from real, live tutors from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. every day. Students can receive help in math, science, social studies or English. Click on the picture above to be connected to an expert tutor.

Online Databases

Online databases are different than regular "websites." Think of the books on a library reference shelf, filled with all kinds of information. Now imagine if the companies that publish those books stored the information on a computer instead. That's an online database. Through the library, you can access all kinds of online databases, whether you're working on a report for social studies, a science project, or any other homework assignment.

One important thing to know: These databases aren't free—the library has to pay the publishing companies for you to use them. So, if you're using a computer at home or school, you'll be asked to type in your Lake Villa District Library card barcode number and your password.

 
Search Engines

The Internet is a big place, and what you find often depends on the way you find it. Search engines are websites that help you find other websites. Some search engines are made just for kids, to help them find websites they can use to do research for homework assignments. When you're searching the Internet, you might want to try using these kinds of search engines.

Did you know that school textbooks often have websites that kids and families can use for extra help? These websites have practice questions, games, and study guides.
