Located in Asheville, North Carolina, Biltmore Estate combines the talents of landscape designer Frederick Law Olmsted and architect William Morris Hunt. This slide lecture, presented by art historian Jeff Mishur, discusses the history, architecture and landscape plan of the estate as well as parallels between the fictitious Downtown Abbey’s Crawley family and the real-life home of the Vanderbilt’s.

The Essential Christmas Carol

Charles Dickens quickly wrote A Christmas Carol in 1843 to pay off some debts. Little did he know it was destined to become one of the most enduring holiday stories of all time. In this storytelling lecture, William Pack, using a script derived from Dickens’ 1867 abridgment, will perform a reading enhanced with a modern recreation of a magic lantern slide show popular during Dickens’ lifetime.
