Download the Axis360 App on your device. 

What devices do not work with eRead Illinois?
Older Kindles. (Kindle Fire and HD are good.)

How many books can I check out at once?

How many holds can I have at once?

How long is the checkout period?
14 days is the maximum. Ebooks return automatically. There are never late fees.

Can I use the OverDrive app I already have?
No. These are separate collections and require different technology.

Is anything happening to OverDrive?
No. Everything about OverDrive stays the same.

Do these books count against my 5 checkouts in OverDrive?

Are we sharing the books with other libraries?
Yes, the eRead Illinois catalog is shared with participating libraries in Illinois. At last update there were about 6,000 total books.

General Ebook FAQs

Does it cost anything to download an ebook?
No, ebooks from LVDL are free to download. 

Will I be able to read an e-book on my device?
Probably. Desktops, laptops, smart phones, tablets, Kindles, and Nooks can all handle e-books. If you’re not sure if your device is compatible, ask us. 

What’s OverDrive and what’s eRead Illinois?
We have 2 separate collections of ebooks. 

- Our OverDrive collection contains books we have purchased exclusively for Lake Villa District Library cardholders. 
- eRead Illinois is an additional collection that is funded by the Illinois State Library. These ebooks are available to patrons of many libraries throughout Illinois. 

Each collection requires different technology, so it’s important to know which collection you’re using. 

What’s an Adobe ID?
An Adobe ID is a free account that allows you to read e-books in the EPUB format. To create an Adobe ID you’ll need an email address. An Adobe ID is an anti-piracy measure.
