It was here that John Deere invented the self-scouring plow and Cyrus McCormick perfected and manufactured his mechanical reaper, dramatically increasing the efficiency and productivity of American agriculture. Author John Wasik will discuss how and why Illinois became such a hub of innovation. He will invite audiences to contemplate what must be done to ensure that our state can thrive in a global economy in which automation and digital technology are increasingly prevalent.

Earth Day 2018: Wildlife Conservation, Falcons, and Migratory Birds

Join Craig Hendee, Executive Director of the International Heritage Conservancy, as we celebrate Earth Day 2018 with a presentation on Wildlife Conservation, endangered species, and a look at where some of our Northern Illinois migratory birds spend the winter. Craig’s famous ambassadors from the wild, Peregrine Falcons Alvin and Tommy, will be accompanying him, and he will touch on conservation projects working with various falcons, and the conservation education programs that are associated with those programs.
