Youth Services Reference Associate – Part-Time

Are you someone who loves working with young people and their caregivers? Are you kind, creative, collaborative, and excited to provide the best service possible to library patrons and your fellow teammates?

Lake Villa District Library is seeking a part-time Youth Services Reference Associates to join us. This dynamic role involves assisting patrons with reference, reader’s advisory and various technologies; handling collection development responsibilities; assisting with outreach; planning and conducting programs; and more.

Excellent communication skills and team skills are a must, as are proficiency with technology and adaptability to change. An interest in youth and/or young adult literature is strongly preferred. A healthy sense of humor is a necessity!

This position reports to the Head of Youth Services. It involves collaboration with Youth Services staff as well as staff in other departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with one year of previous experience working with children and/or young adults, OR LTA or Associate’s degree with two years of public library experience and experience working with children and/or young adults preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with technology (particularly Microsoft Office applications).
  • Ability to work a schedule including evening and weekend hours.
  • Access to transportation.

Hours

  • 24 hours per week: Mondays 3 – 9pm; Tuesdays 9 – 3pm; Wednesdays 3 – 9pm; Fridays 9 – 3pm.
  • Additional weekend hours (generally one weekend a month) will be assigned on a rotating basis.

Salary

  • $21.69/hour (based on qualifications) with benefits, including paid vacation, sick time, holidays and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension plan.
